Blue Monday is often described as the most challenging day of the year. Falling in mid-January, it arrives when holiday energy has faded, winter feels long, and many people are navigating colder days and quieter moments. While the concept itself isn’t rooted in science, the feelings often associated with it are very real.

This year, Canada Gold chose to reframe Blue Monday, not as a day to dwell on difficulty, but as an opportunity to come together and share a little extra kindness.

A Community Moment That Meant a Lot

2016 $10 Winter Fun Pure Silver Coin

From January 12 to January 26, 2026, our Blue Monday campaign invited our community to do something simple yet meaningful: share uplifting, hopeful, or lighthearted words with one another.

What followed truly exceeded our expectations.

Your comments, quotes, and messages filled our feeds with encouragement, humour, and warmth. They reminded us that even during the colder, quieter months, small moments of positivity can make a genuine difference.

It was about connection, community, and creating space for people to lift one another up, and you showed up wholeheartedly.

Words That Brightened the Day

Sometimes, the right words arrive at exactly the right moment. As part of this campaign, we wanted to share a few quotes that remind us of resilience, optimism, and perspective.

Maya Angelou Quote

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

— Maya Angelou

Dolly Parton Quote and Michael Scott Quote

“The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.”

– Dolly Parton

“‘You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.’ – Wayne Gretzky”

– Michael Scott

Each of these quotes carries a simple but powerful message: challenges are part of the journey, and optimism can exist alongside difficulty.

Canada Gold Blue Monday Giveaway Winners

Congratulations to Our Blue Monday Winners

As a thank-you to everyone who participated, we were happy to award two silver-themed prizes that reflect the winter season and the spirit of the campaign.

Congratulations to our winners:

Jordan (Ontario)
2007 $20 Blue Crystal Snowflake – Sterling Silver Coin

Johanna (British Columbia)
2016 $10 Winter Fun – Pure Silver Coin

We hope these pieces serve as a lasting reminder of the warmth and positivity shared during this campaign.

Why This Campaign Matters to Us

At Canada Gold, we work with precious metals every day, but we know that real value often goes beyond the tangible. Trust, kindness, and community are just as important to us as transparency and expertise.

The Blue Monday campaign reflected those values. It reminded us how powerful a collective moment of positivity can be, and how meaningful it is to create space for people to connect, even in small ways.

Whether you shared a quote, left a comment, or simply read through the messages, thank you for being part of it. You helped turn a traditionally “blue” day into something brighter.

We’re grateful to be part of such a thoughtful and engaged community, and we’re excited for what’s ahead as we move into February.

Stay connected with Canada Gold on our socials for future campaigns, stories, and community moments.

Sometimes, all it takes is a few kind words to make a difference.

Gold and silver bars are popular choices for Canadians who want to hold physical precious metals over the long term. Whether you are new to bullion or simply exploring different formats, understanding purity standards, product types, and resale considerations can help you buy with confidence.

This guide breaks down common gold and silver bar options, explains how bars and coins differ, and outlines what to expect when it comes time to sell.

What Is Considered High-Purity Bullion?

Bullion refers to physical precious metals that meet established purity standards. These products typically come in the form of bars or coins and are valued primarily for their metal content rather than collectibility.

High-purity bullion generally includes:

  • Gold bullion with a purity of 99.99%
  • Silver bullion with a purity of 99.9% or higher

These standards ensure the metal is widely recognized and easy to authenticate, which is important both when purchasing and when selling.

Gold Bars vs. Gold Coins: What’s the Difference?

When choosing between gold bars and gold coins, the main differences relate to form, recognition, and resale characteristics.

Recognized Gold Bars

Gold bars produced by well-known refiners are valued strictly for their gold content. They typically feature:

  • Clearly stamped weight and purity
  • Recognized hallmarks from trusted refiners
  • Straightforward pricing that closely follows market rates

Because of their simplicity and standardization, bars are widely accepted and easy to liquidate when needed.

Government-Issued Gold Coins

Government-issued coins, such as Canadian Maple Leafs, are produced by national mints and generally offer:

  • The same high purity as gold bars
  • Government backing and an official face value
  • Strong global recognition

Due to their official status and familiarity, bullion coins often carry slightly higher premiums and may resell for marginally more than bars of the same weight.

Do All Coins Resell for More Than Bars?

Not necessarily.

While government-issued bullion coins often resell at a premium compared to bars, this does not apply to every coin.

Coins that may resell at higher values include:

  • Widely recognized bullion coins issued by national mints
  • Coins in standard bullion condition
  • Coins with strong market demand and recognition

Coins that may not carry additional premiums include:

  • Circulated or damaged coins
  • Non-government or novelty coins
  • Common bullion coins in typical condition, which may be priced similarly to bars

In many cases, resale values between bars and coins can be very close, especially during stable market conditions.

Generic gold bars and Royal Canadian Mint silver bars

Gold and Silver Bars: Size and Flexibility

Gold and silver bars are available in a wide range of sizes, from smaller bars to larger-format options. Choosing a size often comes down to personal preference, storage considerations, and how flexible you want your holdings to be.

Smaller bars can offer greater flexibility when selling, while larger bars typically carry lower premiums per ounce. Regardless of size, recognized silver bars are valued based on purity, weight, and current market pricing.

Availability and the In-Store Experience

Most standard bullion products are regularly stocked at Canada Gold locations. While pre-ordering is not usually required, availability can vary by store and market conditions.

Calling ahead to confirm stock or checking product availability on our website is always recommended, especially if you are looking for a specific product or size.

Selling Back: What to Expect

When selling gold or silver bullion, value is determined by:

  • Live market prices
  • Purity and weight
  • Product recognition and condition

Recognized bars and government-issued coins are among the easiest forms of bullion to resell due to their standardized specifications and broad market acceptance.

At Canada Gold, pricing is based on live market rates, with testing completed in front of you so you can clearly understand how your offer is determined.

Learn More or Visit Us In Store

Whether you are exploring gold bars, silver bars, or government-issued bullion coins, our team is here to explain your options clearly and transparently.

A new year brings a natural moment to pause, reset, and think about what matters most. For many Canadians, January is about setting intentions, making thoughtful choices, and starting fresh with clarity and confidence.

At Canada Gold, we believe precious metals can be part of that conversation, not as quick decisions or trends, but as tangible objects rooted in history, craftsmanship, and lasting value. Gold, silver, and platinum have been trusted across generations, not only for their beauty, but for their role in preserving value through changing times.

Looking Back: A Brief Perspective on Precious Metals

Over the past several years, precious metals have continued to draw attention worldwide. Gold and silver have moved through periods of volatility, global uncertainty, and renewed demand. Silver, in particular, saw notable movement through 2025, while gold continued to demonstrate why it has long been viewed as a cornerstone metal across cultures and economies.

While markets shift daily, precious metals have consistently remained part of long-term conversations around value, resilience, and tangible ownership. Their appeal often lies in what they represent, stability, physical presence, and clarity in pricing.

At Canada Gold, we publish live prices throughout the day so customers can see real-time market values and understand what they are looking at before making any decisions.

Precious Metals as a Personal Choice

“Investing in yourself” does not have a single definition. For some, it means learning something new. For others, it means choosing items with intention, craftsmanship, and meaning.

Physical precious metals offer:

  • Tangibility, something you can see and hold
  • Transparency, with pricing tied directly to live market rates
  • Simplicity, with standardized purity and weight
  • Timelessness, valued across cultures and generations

Whether you are exploring bullion for the first time or simply learning more, understanding how these metals work is part of starting the year informed and confident.

The holiday season is a time for giving, reflection, and celebrating what matters most. At Canada Gold, December is one of our favourite times of year because it brings together community, tradition, and meaningful moments. This season, we are celebrating with festive giveaways, limited-time bullion pricing, and gift ideas that offer something truly different from the ordinary.

Whether you are shopping for a thoughtful holiday gift or exploring special seasonal offerings, here is how Canada Gold is celebrating the holidays this December.

December Giveaway: A Season of Collectible Cheer

To help spread some holiday joy, Canada Gold is hosting our December Giveaway, featuring a festive mix of collectible coins and commemorative keepsake cards. This month’s prizes highlight artistry, storytelling, and seasonal charm, making them perfect for gifting or adding to a personal collection.

December Giveaway Prizes include:

  • 2025 $1 Bluey Christmas, Pure Silver Coin
  • 2025 $1 Bluey Christmas Coloured Uncirculated Coin
  • 2025 50 Cent Whimsical Holiday Tree Lenticular Coin
  • 2024 50 Cent Trimming the Holiday Tree Lenticular Coin
  • 2025 Honouring Canada’s Unknown Soldier Commemorative Collector Keepsake Card
  • 2024 $2 Commemorative Collector Keepsake Card, 100th Anniversary of the Royal Canadian Air Force

It is a simple way to celebrate the season while discovering some truly special holiday collectibles.

December Flash Sale: Lowest Ever Premiums for the Season

Alongside our holiday giveaway, Canada Gold is also offering a December Flash Sale on select bullion products. For a limited time, Gold Bars and Gold & Silver Maples are available at some of our lowest ever premiums.

What Does “Lowest Premiums” Mean?

A premium is the amount paid above the live spot price of gold, silver, or platinum. During this flash sale, certain products are offered with a smaller markup over market price than usual, helping customers get more metal for the price.

Lowest Premium items currently include:

  • Barre d'or de 5 oz
  • Barre d'argent reconnue de 100 oz
  • 1 oz Recognized Platinum Bar
  • 1 oz Platinum Maple

These items are marked to indicate they offer our best value relative to live spot prices. Availability and pricing can change quickly, so checking current listings is recommended.

You can view live pricing and current availability anytime at CanadaGold.ca/Bullion.

Special Pricing vs. Lowest Premium: What’s the Difference?

You may also notice items marked with “Special Price.” While both options offer savings, they work slightly differently:

  • Lowest Premium items focus on having the smallest markup over spot price.
  • Special Price items are temporarily reduced from regular pricing.

For example, uncarded gold bars are often offered at special pricing because they do not include premium packaging, making them a practical option for those who prefer simplicity while still choosing fine bullion.

Why Gold and Silver Make Thoughtful Holiday Gifts

Gold and silver bullion can be a unique and meaningful holiday gift when matched with the right recipient. Unlike many traditional presents, bullion is tangible, timeless, and rooted in long-standing traditions.

Why people choose bullion as a gift:

  • Timeless appeal: Precious metals retain intrinsic value and have been appreciated across cultures for centuries.
  • Meaningful symbolism: Gold and silver often represent strength, prosperity, and longevity.
  • Tangible and lasting: A physical gift that can be seen, held, and passed down.
  • Educational value: A thoughtful way to introduce someone to precious metals and responsible saving concepts.
  • Flexible options: Available in various sizes, formats, and price points to suit many occasions.

When gifting bullion, presentation matters. Pairing a piece with a card or a personal note explaining its significance can make the gift feel even more special.

Learning about precious metals early in your financial journey can help you make informed decisions about long-term financial planning. Whether you’re saving for the future, curious about gold and silver, or simply exploring how tangible assets fit into the broader financial landscape, understanding how precious metals hold value over time is an important step.

Let’s explore the role gold and silver have played in preserving value, and why many Canadians continue to find them meaningful parts of their financial stories.

The Long-Term Strength of Precious Metals

Gold and silver have been valued across centuries for their beauty, rarity, and durability. Unlike paper currency, which can fluctuate in value, precious metals have historically maintained purchasing power over the long term. This makes them an interesting area to learn about for those seeking to understand how wealth can be preserved across generations.

At Canada Gold, we often meet customers who are fascinated by how their coins, bars, or jewellery reflect both historical craftsmanship and enduring value, items that often tell stories beyond their price.

Why Precious Metals Continue to Matter

Inflation Protection:

Throughout history, gold and silver have often moved differently from currency. When inflation affects paper money, the value of these metals tends to remain more stable, which is why they’re often viewed as stores of value.

Generational Significance:

Physical gold and silver pieces, such as coins, jewellery, or bullion, can become lasting family keepsakes, passed down and appreciated for both their sentimental and material worth.

Portfolio Perspective:

While many people explore precious metals as part of a diversified portfolio, it’s always important to understand that their role depends on individual goals and preferences. Learning about their historical trends and characteristics can help broaden financial literacy and confidence.

Tangible Value in a Digital World:

In an increasingly digital economy, physical assets like gold and silver stand out for their timeless, tangible nature, something you can hold, appreciate, and understand in a very real way.

Learn More with Canada Gold

At Canada Gold, we’re committed to transparency and education. Whether you’re buying, selling, or simply learning more about gold and silver, our team is here to provide clear information and trusted service.

For many newcomers to Canada, building a secure financial foundation and achieving milestones like home ownership can take years of hard work, planning, and perseverance. For Feanshu and Keerat, that dream became reality. Thanks to determination, smart financial choices, and a trusted experience with Canada Gold.

A Journey of Growth and Opportunity

Originally newcomers to Canada, Feanshu and Keerat focused on creating a stable future for their family. Like many, they understood the importance of saving wisely and exploring different ways to preserve value over time. Through their personal experience, they discovered that buying and later selling gold could be an effective way to manage savings and build toward larger goals, such as making the down payment on their second home in Canada.

While their decision to buy and sell gold was part of their own financial journey, what stood out most was how smooth and transparent their experience was with Canada Gold.

An Experience Built on Trust and Transparency

Feanshu and Keerat shared how impressed they were with the professionalism and honesty they encountered at Canada Gold.

They described the process as:

“Seamless, transparent, and trustworthy.”

From clear evaluations to fair pricing and immediate payment, every step reinforced their confidence. For Feanshu and Keerat, the experience wasn’t just about exchanging gold, it was about working with a company that valued integrity, clarity, and customer care.

A Milestone Worth Celebrating

Feanshu and Keerat proudly celebrate purchasing their second home in Canada, a major milestone that reflects both their discipline and smart financial choices. Their story is a reminder that thoughtful planning, paired with trusted service, can lead to amazing achievements.

Canada Gold is honoured to have played a small part in their journey and to be a trusted partner for so many Canadians and newcomers alike.

Coin collecting just got a little more colourful! For the first time ever, the Canada Gold Coin Exchange welcomed families with a fun new addition, a Colouring Contest for kids.

Held on September 26 – 27, 2025 at Canada Gold Hamilton, the event was part of a special Coin Exchange hosted with the Royal Canadian Mint, where collectors and enthusiasts could trade cash for newly released commemorative coins.

Visitors exchanged $5 in cash for $5 in limited-edition 2025 coins, including:

  • Two coloured $2 coins celebrating the life and art of Daphne Odjig
  • One coloured $1 coin honouring the 150th Anniversary of the Supreme Court of Canada

With long lines forming throughout the days, the Canada Gold team decided to add an extra layer of excitement for the youngest attendees and it was a hit.

The Colouring Contest

While the grown-ups swapped coins, the kids took centre stage at the Colouring Contest station, complete with crayons, colouring sheets, and lots of smiles.

Children were invited to design their very own toonie using a special colouring page featuring a blank coin template. They gave their creations unique titles and added their first names and ages before submitting their entries.

For those waiting in line, the contest offered a fun and engaging way to pass the time. Parents loved it too, many even returned later with their kids just so they could join in! To make things even more fun, Canada Gold introduced “Melty,” our friendly mascot, featured on bonus colouring pages sharing fun facts and jokes about precious metals.

And the Winners Are…

We received a total of 19 colourful entries from creative kids across Hamilton, and every single one brightened up the event! After the event, winners were chosen through a random draw, keeping things fair for all participants.

1st Prize – “Sunset” by Graham (Age 6):

Monarch Butterfly Specimen Set

2nd Prize – “Rainbow” by Henry (Age 3):

O’Canada Gift Card Set

A big congratulations to the winners, and a heartfelt thank you to all the young artists who participated. Their creativity and enthusiasm made the event one to remember!

Family, Fun, and Precious Memories

The success of the colouring contest showed that coin collecting can be fun for all ages. What started as a way to make the wait more enjoyable turned into a highlight of the weekend, with families spending quality time together and leaving with both memories and masterpieces.

And the fun doesn’t stop here! Future Coin Exchange events will include the Canada Gold Colouring Contest, giving more young artists a chance to shine.

Join Us at the Next Coin Exchange

Mark your calendars! The next Canada Gold Coin Exchange with The Royal Canadian Mint will take place at our new Ottawa West – Carlingwood Shopping Centre location on December 12-13.

Coins for the adults. Creativity for the kids. Fun for everyone.

At Canada Gold, teamwork shines as brightly as the gold and silver we handle every day, and this Halloween, our teams proved that creativity is just as much a part of who we are.

Even with a busy season brought on by rising gold and silver prices, our staff from across the country took time to join our Halloween Social Media Mission, a lighthearted internal challenge that encouraged every store to bring the spooky season to life with a touch of precious metal magic. The result? A nationwide showcase of creativity, humour, and true Canada Gold spirit.

A Nation of Creativity

From eerie skeleton hands clutching gold bars to pumpkins guarding silver coins, the entries were as imaginative as they were spirited. Each photo captured the personality and energy of the teams behind them, all while celebrating the season in true Canada Gold fashion.

Entries from Ottawa East and Ottawa West

Our Ottawa East and Ottawa West teams kicked things off with hauntingly beautiful displays, featuring skeletal hands, shadowy lighting, and gold bars glinting like buried treasure. The Ottawa East team even crafted a “haunted vault” look, where bars and coins shimmered under a ghostly glow, while Ottawa West brought a fun twist with cauldrons full of candy and bullion, reminding everyone that treats come in all forms.

Entry from Edmonton South

In Edmonton South, the creativity was equally striking. Their displays mixed classic Halloween vibes with the elegance of precious metals. Think skeletons showing off their latest “bling” and spooky backdrops framing pure gold bars. Edmonton West followed suit with clever candy-and-gold setups, creating the perfect “trick or treat” twist that blended sweetness with shine.

Entry from Edmonton West

Entry from Calgary South

Not to be outdone, Calgary South embraced the festive spirit with a bone-chillingly fun photo featuring a full skeleton guarding stacks of gold. It was equal parts eerie and entertaining. A true Halloween masterpiece that had everyone smiling.

Connecting Coast to Coast

What made this mission special wasn’t just the creativity, it was the connection. Across Canada, our teams found a way to come together virtually, sharing ideas, inspiration, and a bit of friendly competition.

Despite the busy days that come with increased customer visits during precious metal price surges, every participating store took the time to create something special. It was a reminder that behind every Canada Gold location is a passionate team dedicated not only to excellence but also to community and camaraderie.

The Halloween at Canada Gold mission wasn’t just about fun, it was about fostering connection, creativity, and pride in what we do together.
